Where to Sell Your AI Written Ebook for Free? – Best Ecommerce Platform for Ebooks

An ebook is the digital product par excellence. It’s the perfect freebie, the perfect product to add in a bundle, the perfect lead bait, the perfect first product to sell, and the perfect last product to offer the world as a legacy.

Ok, I know it’s a lot of “perfect,” but I didn’t finish.

There’s no product as of today that’s more perfect for you to create for free, like an ebook.

With ChatGPT and other AI tools, you don’t have an excuse anymore.

If you want to know how to create original ebooks with AI for free, I did a full guide on that. Today, we are here to learn where to sell ebooks for free, even though it’s an ebook written with AI!

Many platforms don’t care whether you wrote your ebook with AI or not. As long as you focused on bringing value.

Before we start, you must know that I personally tried all of them, so my review is accurate. You won’t find many honest analysis as the ones in this blog.

Not only are these platforms ecommerce that allow you to upload your ebook written with AI, but also they are marketplaces.

How to sell your ebooks for free on plateformes with Marketplace

What’s a marketplace?

A marketplace is an online platform that connects buyers and sellers.

All the platforms I listed in this section have their own marketplace. Which means you don’t need to bring your own audience to make sales, there are already people willing to buy who go there. It’s less work for you.

It’s important because your shop is not entirely dependent on your own audience, like your WooCommerce shop or a link in your bio.

Now, let’s start and take a closer look at these best ecommerce platforms to sell your AI-generated ebook for free.

1. Payhip

On Payhip, you can sell any type of digital download such as: ebooks, software, design assets, templates, videos, music, online courses, and more.

According to them, as long as “you can save it, you can sell it” on their platform.

But this marketing catchy phrase doesn’t reflect their full capability.

They don’t only let you sell anything that you can save, you can also sell physical products, memberships, bundles, or coaching services.

– Categories

Fiction Books, Fitness & Health, Photography, Writing & Publishing, Business & Money, Film, Comics & Graphic Novels, Music, Education, Gaming, Software

– Pricing plan

For free, you get all the features of any premium version, unlimited products and unlimited revenue. I’ve never seen that before.

The only difference between the freemium and the premium, as you can see in the picture, is how much fees you will pay.

– How do your customers pay?

Customers can purchase via PayPal, Stripe, or all major cards.

– How do you get paid on Payhip?

The platform supports payouts via PayPal and Stripe.

– Marketplace

On Payhip, the marketplace doesn’t have a lot of visitors, and there aren’t many products. It’s a blessing and a curse.

It’s a blessing because there are not a lot of competitors, so your ebook will be easily discoverable. But the curse is that there are not many visitors to buy your ebook.

If it wasn’t for the low traffic, Payhip would have been the best platefome to sell your ebook for free as a beginner and worlwide.

It’s the most user-friendly and easy-to-use marketplace on this list. They give every feature for free, the support responds quickly, and the payment method is very simple to set up.

In the long run they might have more traffic, they deserve it. I just let my ebook sit there and am waiting. You have nothing to lose.  Go try it.

By the way, I’m a big fan of dark mode. So I thought I’d let you know that they have that too, and many resources that teach you for free how to sell your ebook online for free.

2. Gumroad

Their catchy sentence is: “With Gumroad, anyone can earn their first dollars online.”

It seems to me they are saying even though you are a beginner with zero audience, put your ebook on our platform. We will show it to visitors, and you will make money, at least your first dollars.

Well I confirm that is right. They have a good reputation when it comes to selling ebooks, so I recommend it.

Gumroad is known for selling ebooks, but you can also use it for memberships, whether it’s for a podcast, online course, or SaaS subscriptions.

– Categories

3D, Design, Drawing & Painting, Self-Improvement, Films, Music & Sound, Design, Education, Software Development, Business & Money, Gaming, Photography, Writing & Publishing, Fitness & Health, Audio, Fiction Books.

– Pricing plan

They don’t have a premium plan, only a Free Plan.

They are the kind of platform that lives by: “We only make money when you do.”

They don’t take monthly fees but they take 10% transaction fee per sale.

Most marketplace take 20%, so Gumroad is affordable.  It’s Ideal for beginners and small-scale sellers. But because of the low commission they take, high-volume sellers too will love it.

– How do your customers pay?

Customers can purchase via PayPal, credit/debit cards, and Google Pay.

An advantage of Gumroad is that there is a tip option every time someone buys. The tips can be 10%, 20%, or more. It means if the product is $100 and the customer wants to pay a 10% tip, they will check out with $110.

You can also create an affiliate marketing system for your product.

– How do you get paid?

Gumroad pays creators, either through direct deposit or PayPal, depending on the country.

You can ask to be paid once you reach $10.

I live in an African country. They only show bank account and Stripe options. Usually I prefer PayPal because from where I am, I can’t have Stripe. So no Stripe for me, what about the bank account ?

Well, when I looked closely in the bank account section, they added a message saying: “Direct bank deposits are not yet supported in your chosen country. Please change your account’s country to one where you have identity verification and a bank account.”

This means I can only use Gumroad if I change my country in the settings and prove that my identity and bank are registered there.

I don’t like to make things up in business. My country is not eligible so I let go of Gumroad. But from what I’ve seen, I recommend it if your country is eligible.

– Marketplace

I didn’t put an order on this list. All ecommerce platforms here are great for selling your ebook. Each one has its strengths.

For example Payhip has an amazing user-friendly design and many features, but Gumroad has way more traffic. Which means Gumroad has much more selling potential. It’s a must-go platform when it comes to selling your AI-generated ebook. They accept every type of ebooks.

The first thing that sets this platform apart is that you can add animated covers for your products, some even add GIFs. It’s kind of weird. I saw people selling things for free, probably to build their community or get leads. It’s a good strategy as well.

3. Kobo Writing Life

Kobo Writing Life is a self-publishing platform favored by independent authors all over the world.

You can’t sell MRR (Master Resell Rights), PLR (Private Label Rights) or any books you didn’t write.

Unlike other platforms that allow you to sell a wide range of digital products, on Kobo Writing Life, you can only sell your own eBooks and audiobooks.

They offer something unique that most platforms don’t have: Readers can access books via Kobo eReaders or the Kobo Books app, which is available on a variety of devices: smartphones, tablets, and computers on iOS and Android.

– Categories

Fiction & Literature, Romance, Nonfiction, Mystery & Suspense, Young Adult (YA), Kids, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Biography & Memoir, Business & Finance.

– Pricing Plan

They don’t have a premium plan, only a free plan. But you’ll earn maximum royalties of 70%.

– How do your Customers Pay?

Customers can pay via credit/debit cards, PayPal and Google Pay.

– How do you get Paid?

When someone buys your ebook the money goes directly into your account.

– Marketplace

Kobo Writing Life feels more like a professional library.

You’ll find many self-improvement and novel books, often appearing like works that were professionally edited.

It’s different from platforms like Gumroad, where it feels like some bored children sell their ebooks there. There is a lot of amateur on Gumroad.

But in Kobo Writing Life, people like Robert Greene and Robert Kiyosaki publish their works.

But don’t feel intimidated you can still add your ebook there. According to them, you’re welcome even as a beginner author.

The Kobo Writing Life interface is available in multiple languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. This means you can publish your ebooks in different languages and reach more people.

I didn’t do a test on Kobo because I haven’t finished writing my own self-made ebook yet. Threads Unleashed is an MRR ebook written by someone else.

4. Selar

Selar is an online platform designed to support creators especially in Africa. It allows people all over the world without restriction to sell digital products directly to their audience.

You can sell a variety of products: ebooks, physical book, courses, memberships, a,d tickets..

– Categories

Ebooks, Digital Downloads, Courses, Memberships, Consultations, Physical Products.

– Pricing Plan

Selar offers a free plan where you can sell up to 40 products. They have a pro plan at $30/month and the turbo plan at $45/month.

– How do your Customers Pay?

Selar supports payments via credit/debit cards, bank transfer (visa, mastercard, verve), PayPal, Stripe, mpesa, mtn, airtel and tigo.

They allow you to easily accept tips and donations

– How do you get Paid?

Payouts to your bank account or wallet are made based on the currency of the sale. You get to sell in any currency and have the amount converted and credited in your country’s default currency.

– Marketplace

Selar has an integrated marketplace that gives your products visibility among other creators, with a focus on the African market.

Actually, it’s the only ebook marketplace I’ve heard of that is focused on Africa. But no matter your country, you can sell on Selar.

You can set up your own affiliate marketing system to promote your ebook. According to them, Selar is “the leading affiliate marketplace in Africa with thousands of products to choose from and start promoting right away.” Yours can be one of them.

However, if someone wants to promote products as an affiliate, they must pay $9 a year. Not you, the creator, but your affiliate must pay to be part of the program.

Sell Your Ebook in a Shop Without a Marketplace

If you don’t already have an audience, choosing a platform with a marketplace can be a smart strategy. But it’s not your only option!

Many small creators on Threads and Instagram build their audience independently.

Add Your Link in Your Bio:

Almost everyone interested in you on social media will eventually want to learn more. They’ll check your bio, and if you have a link, they’re likely to click on it.

Platforms like Baecon AI or Linktree work well for this approach.

I use Baecon AI, which allows you to add multiple ebooks for free in a single link, which you can share across social media platforms like Threads, Instagram, Facebook, X, Quora, and more.

Baecon AI also provides a fast, secure payment system for free, supporting PayPal and credit card payments. They take 20% commission per sale.

To drive traffic, post regularly on the social media platform where you’re active. People will check your bio, see your ebooks and that’s how you can start making sales!

Can You Sell Your Ebook on Freelance Platforms?

At first, I thought platforms like Upwork, Fiverr or ComeUp allowed selling your own ebook since I’ve seen ebook-related gigs there.

However, you can’t sell a self-published ebook directly. Instead, you can offer services like “I will write a 10,000 words high-quality ebook for you.”

Some freelancers also offer packages like “I will give 100 copyright-free ebooks.

But unfortunately, you can’t offer your ebook directly as “I will give my ebook about X topic.” Freelance platforms are not marketplaces for self-published ebooks.

In Conclusion, there are many platforms where you can sell your AI-generated ebook for free and make money.

Some have their own marketplace while others require you to drive traffic from social media to your shop.

The best strategy is to combine both methods. List your ebook on multiple platforms, make sure that your country is eligible and that you have the supported payment methods.
